Non-woven Fabric Prices Welcome the Second Round of Skyrocketing

Affected by the COVID-19, the price of non-woven fabrics continues to rise. Melt blown non-woven fabrics have risen by more than 30 times within 2 months, spunbond non-woven fabrics have risen by more than 10 times, and hot air cloths have also risen by 8 times.

1. Demand and Price of Non-woven Fabrics Increases

Non-woven fabric is composed of oriented or random fibers. It is called cloth due to its appearance and certain properties. There are many non-woven fabric production processes for its manufacture, including spunbond, melt blown, and spunlance non-woven fabric.

Affected by the epidemic, the demand for anti-epidemic supplies such as masks has greatly increased. As the core of masks, melt-blown non-woven fabrics that intercept bacteria and droplets first ushered in a price increase. Before the epidemic, the price of melt-blown non-woven fabrics was around 20,000 yuan per ton. In February 2020, the price soared to 80,000/ton, and the price of melt-blown fabrics exceeded 500,000/ton in March. In April, affected by the outbreak of the international epidemic, melt-blown non-woven fabrics ushered in a second round of skyrocketing, and the price even reached 700,000/ton, an increase of 35 times.

As the inner and outer layers of the mask require spunbond non-woven fabrics, the price of spunbonded non-woven fabrics has also been rising, and some non-woven fabric suppliers' orders are scheduled to May.

2. Most Diaper Companies and Wet Wipes Companies May Face Suspension of Production

The shortage of non-woven fabrics not only affects diapers, but also wet wipes companies. A diaper manufacturer in Hebei estimates that some diaper factories in the industry have ceased production or are about to suspend production.

Since the end of March, the price of spunlace non-woven fabrics has also begun to rise. According to reports, the main raw materials used for wet wipes are spunlace non-woven fabrics. At present, spunlace nonwoven manufacturers use most of their production capacity for the production of anti-epidemic materials such as masks and protective clothing. This has caused wet wipes to rise in price and out of stock. A certain domestic wet wipes factory said that they have cooperated with non-woven fabric manufacturers for many years, and they have never encountered a situation where the full payment can’t buy goods. Today, the daily sales orders of the wet wipe factory are still large, but there is a shortage of fabric materials, and some production lines have been in a semi-stop state. The wet wipe factory said that if they can no longer buy non-woven fabrics, they will have to stop production in May.

It is understood that the non-woven materials required for diapers and wet wipes are not the same as the non-woven materials required for masks. Why is this type of non-woven fabric also facing a shortage? Practitioners say that the SMS non-woven fabric used in diapers is a composite non-woven fabric, which is formed by hot-rolling a three-layer web of spunbonded non-woven fabric, melt-blown non-woven fabric and spun-bonded non-woven fabric. The thin SMS non-woven fabric are suitable for pad, diapers and many others. SMS medical fabric can be used to make disposable protective clothing.

In addition, because the non-woven fabric machines for diapers can be slightly modified to produce non-woven materials for masks, some enterprises have switched to production of masks, which further leads to a shortage of non-woven materials for diapers. Spunbond non-woven fabrics and melt-blown non-woven fabrics for masks are more expensive, so non-woven fabric manufacturers can also transform to produce materials for masks.

3.The Price of Diapers and Wet Wipes May Increase

The non-woven fabric price increases. And the price increase and shortage of raw materials for diapers and wipes means that the prices of diapers and wipes may rise. Currently, there is no substantial price increase for diaper brands on the market. But in some supermarkets, some brands of diapers are out of stock.

Generally, the non-woven fabric price increases and the price of products made of non-woven fabric may increase in the future. If you are in need of many diapers or wet wipes, you can choose to store some in advance.
