The fibers in polypropylene melt-blown cloth are arranged irregularly and disorderly. This structure makes the specific surface area larger and the pore size smaller, so it has better filterability and dust holding capacity than other non-woven fabrics, and is widely used in the field of filter materials; Its non-woven fabric contains a large number of fine pores and excellent lipophilicity, which makes it widely used in the field of oil-absorbing materials. In addition, due to the excellent reprocessing performance of polypropylene melt-blown non-woven fabrics, its application fields are becoming more and more extensive, such as medical protection, sound insulation materials, thermal insulation materials, battery separators, etc.


3.1 Medical protection

Medical protection is a main application field of polypropylene meltblown nonwovens. As people have higher requirements for health protection, its status in the medical and health field is increasing day by day. In recent years, the combination of meltblown nonwoven fabric and spunbonded nonwoven fabric has the characteristics of high strength, good hand feeling, high efficiency and low resistance. It is used to make medical masks, usually SMS composite. The "S" layer is mainly a spunbond layer that provides strong support for the composite non-woven fabric, and the outer "S" layer is made of polypropylene non-woven fabric that has undergone waterproof treatment, and is mainly used to block virus-laden droplets and larger particles Dust; the inner "S" layer is ordinary polypropylene spunbonded non-woven fabric, which mainly plays the role of moisture absorption. "M" is a polypropylene melt-blown non-woven fabric layer. After electret treatment, it can block viruses and filter bacterial suspended particles. The filtration efficiency is higher than 95%, and the breathing resistance is small. It is the most important protective material during the outbreak.


3.2 Thermal insulation materials

Polypropylene fiber has a large specific surface area, small pore size and high porosity. The fiber structure can store a large amount of air, effectively prevent heat loss, and has good warmth retention and air permeability. It is light in weight, soft to the touch but not thin, and is an ideal thermal insulation material. The melt-blown thermal insulation wadding material developed by 3M Company of the United States adds coarse denier polyester three-dimensional crimped fibers to polypropylene melt-blown fibers (35% content) to increase the bulkiness of non-woven fabrics. According to reports, the structure of the melt-blown product is down-like, and its warmth retention is 1.5 times higher than that of down.


3.3 Oil-absorbing material

Polypropylene fiber has good lipophilicity, poor hygroscopicity, and insoluble in oils and strong acids and alkalis. It is a new type of oil-absorbing material with high efficiency and no pollution. Light weight, after absorbing oil, it can still float on the water surface for a long time without deformation; it is a non-polar material, its oil absorption can reach dozens of times its own weight; non-toxic, good water and oil replacement, can be used repeatedly; use combustion method The processing of polypropylene melt-blown cloth does not produce toxic gas, it can burn completely and release a lot of heat, and only 0.02% of ash remains.


At present, polypropylene melt-blown oil-absorbing materials are widely used in environmental protection, oil-water separation engineering, marine oil spills and other fields. The super oil-absorbing resin materials of styrene, hydroxyethyl methacrylate, and methacrylate prepared by Li Feng and other monomers were melt-blown with polypropylene pellets, and the composite polypropylene melt-blown materials prepared had oil absorption multiples. High, good oil retention rate, low water absorption.


3.4 Filter material

The filter material is the earliest application field of polypropylene melt-blown non-woven fabric, and its fiber diameter is less than 5 μm, which is very suitable for use as an air filter material. Especially the melt-blown material treated with electro-electret has the characteristics of fluffy structure, large porosity, large dust holding capacity, low breathing resistance and high filtration efficiency. It is widely used in filter materials such as sub-high efficiency, high efficiency and low resistance, ordinary household air conditioners, and electronic manufacturing. Polypropylene melt-blown materials can also be used in liquid filtration, which can filter particles of 0.22-10 μm, such as the filtration of white blood cells in blood during blood delivery.
